A Visit to the North Pole

We bought a Hot-Air Balloon ride at the Dinner Auction and finally scheduled our flight.

It was soooooo AWESOME!

I recommend that EVERYONE put this on their bucket list.

I'm ready to go again already!

We started EARLY in the morning.

Everyone helped lay it out and get it ready for inflation.

The sun just started coming up as we began to inflate.

Then it was time to board the....basket.

The pilot purposely brushed the tree tops as a way to slow us down; and we caught a souvenir.

With all the beautiful weather last week,

we spent almost every evening outside.

YAY!!! Laina was potty trained over my b-day weekend that she spent with Mimi!!!

We are going to give all our diapers to Cohen when he arrives in May.

I was really getting nervous with this potty training thing because she seemed "too smart" for it!!! She clearly let us know two weeks ago that she did not like underwears and wanted to keep "just one" diaper when we gave them all to Cohen. [when she asks for candy, we used to say, "just one" so now she just says it automatically when she asks, so that is what she did with the diapers......she just wanted to keep "just one."] She would also start to go potty, say, "Uh-oh" then breathe a sigh of relief and say, "oh, it's OK, I have a diaper on." Then she would proceed to take her diaper off, throw it away, and put a new one on----ALL BY HERSELF!! I guess she got tired of that job and decided to go on the potty instead. I'm probably jinxing it, but is has been 6 days since she went in a diaper [ok, except a couple times overnite....but 100% during the day !!!] YEAH!

We're here---right now!

Thought I would post some pics...will post more when I get back.

This is at 4:30 in the morning, waiting at the airport.

Flights went well. No popped ear issues--yeah!

Everything was too new on the first flight for Laine to fall back asleep.

She played with Ming-Ming and told her to sit in her seatbelt and look out the window.

Finally on the second flight Laine took a nap. Almost for then ENTIRE flight. [good thing, because she rode as a "lap child" for that flight. Yes, we bought her a seat (paid full price darnit, but a Jamaican family of three was on the overbooked flight and there were only 2 seats left---so i spoke up and said that she could sit on my lap to make room---Merry Christmas to that family :) ]

Oh Christmas Tree...

The Children's Hospital held their Holiday Festival at the

Science Center. The trees were amazing, and all

for charity. Some trees went for $10,000---

and then were donated back to a non-profit center to

put on display.

All the trees along the side walls were not for sale.

They were for the patients at the hospital-since that is

where they will spend Christmas morning.

Each tree had a picture and a story of its recipient....too sad!

Santa's Magical Kingdom....a new tradition?

Laine noticed some Christmas lights on a house one night.

Her exact words were, 'ooooohhh, pretty, look mommy!"

So we thought she would be amazed with Santa's Magical Kingdom.

We thought she'd never stop saying how pretty it was and neat....

....the girl could not spit one utterance of a word out.

She went through the whole park with her eyes wide and her mouth

gaping open. So, not as 'cute' of a reaction,

but she LOVED it nonetheless.

Now everywhere we go, she wants PIBASS [translation: Christmas] lights.

And now she is demanding them on "her side" of the car. We'll

say, look, lights are on Daddy's side, and she states that she wants some lights on Lainey's side!

So, long-time-no-blog!

I've not been able to bring myself to blog in a while, much to the excuse that I didn't want to face the facts about my hard drive....it's dead.

I got a new one and my computer was up and running within days, but WITHOUT ANYTHING---including ALL pics of Alaina since she was born. I at least had a gradual "dealing with it" process that avoided the meltdown, dry heaving, sobbing mess that I would have predicted I'd be. I was sick to my stomach for about 4 days! I kept thinking there was hope, so I couldn't totally breakdown and vomit like I wanted to, I was holding out hope---over and over. Then as one door would close, there would be a linger of hope again....over and over throughout 2 weeks. So when it was finally time to accept the facts and deal with it, it was a lot easier than if the realization would have come earlier in the process.

I know, the best remedy for dying hard-drives is preventative---BACK IT UP! I had a PLAN PEOPLE!!! There was an external hard drive on my Christmas list with plans to organize all the photos by date [they pretty much are [were] anyway] and back them up on the hard drive at the end of the year.

Well, doom beat me to my plan :( and now I sit wishing I was rich so I could send it off to the miracle place that recovers them for $678 dollars!!!!

So PLEASE let this be a lesson to YOU! BACK UP YOUR FILES....it CAN HAPPEN...the dang thing was less than 3 years old!

I must stop thinking about it now or I will end up in therapy!

A Trip to the Pumpkin Patch

We visited the Pumpkin Patch in St. Peter's on Saturday.

Daniel's Farm & Greenhouse.

It's kinda out of the way, but there are lots of things

to do there to make the drive worth it.

A farmin' family....

Laine loved the hay maze. She would run in and out and all around.

She loved to be scared and to scare the strangers. There were many animals to pet.

Even a Billy Goat!

This is an inside joke---

my best friend calls my dad, Billy Goss, Billy Goat!

A BIG tire swing.

And a horsie tire swing.

We tried to talk daddy into buying one of these,

but he said, "no."

He thinks he can make one.

Ha! Yeah right!

Laine scooted through the muddy tunnel.

We had extra pants, but as you can see in the end pictures,

they did not match very well.

Slides, train rides, tunnels, mazes, animals, and.....

.... ROCKS.....

What fun!

There were several strange, infested looking pumpkins.

It was funny to me, that at 22 months old,

she knew, too, that they were different looking.

She would have played in this corn ALL DAY!!!
We kept coming back to it.

Here she is finally tiring of the corn and eyeing the kids on the riding tractors.

She had to go over and test drive EACH one....and there were alot. One was just like Daddy's.

She was finally content with the one that had the pink trailer.

On the way out, you could cross the bridge to see the fishies.

Laine went to a birthday party for her friends, Annie & Caroline.

It was a morning party that you wear your jammies to!

We had a snack---banana with sprinkles!!!

Each person got a party favor----a cup with a twisty straw--fun!

Laine loved the balloons. She got to take a purple one home.

Aunt Bethie bought Laine a new baby doll.

She LOVES it.

It has a moon and the word MOON written on its jammies.
Laine saw that and said, "M, Baby M" and so its name since then has been 'Baby M.'

[I didn't even know she knew her letters until about a month or two ago she just started saying them while she was lying in bed. So I got out some puzzles and was pointing to random letters and she would tell me what they were??!!?! She even knows all their sounds now thanks to Leap Frog I guess--I don't know how she learned all that.]

It's Apple Picking Time

We made our annual trip out to Eckert's Apple Orchard in Millstadt, Ill, on September 26th. There was a huge storm approaching; but we fit in a whole day of fun before the downpour. We got to enjoy the cool winds that the storm brought right up to the last minute--literally. I was buckling my seat belt to go home and it started sprinkling---by the time I had the vehicle in gear to drive, it was pouring! PERFECT TIMING!

Wheee! Laine wanted to go again and again.

The goats could climb up over the people and onto the 'lookouts' that stuck out of the tree.

But first they had to cross the "Golden Goat Bridge."

"Ohhh, it moves." "Choo, Choo."

[this reminds me of when we went out to dinner for my sister's birthday in August----Laine was eating some noodles and being silly and trying to 'slurp' them into her mouth. I think she got a bit much in there and was about to choke, so Auntie M told her, "Chew, Chew," and she finishes her bite and shouts, "CHOO, CHOO" in her train whistle sound.]

Yuck, Sassafras tea....we weren't going to buy this, so we just took a picture since it says PAPPY on it......that is what she calls her grandpa Goss.

We made sure our accessories for the day were fitting for the destination!

...and take a look look from a YEAR AGO. Here is a link to her blog entry from last year's visit. My how she has grown.

She thought it was funny that she could walk through the rows instead of along the rows of trees. It was much harder for mommy to catch her this way since I had to duck down to get under all the trees.

Balloon Glow '09

We went to the annual Forest Park Balloon Glow on Friday nite.

We went with Annie, Caroline, their mom Jess, Mimi, and Auntie M.

It was a blast. I would have to say that BALLOONS hold a close position next to slides, swings, and bunnies [and bonus--one balloon WAS a bunny!!!] on Laine's list of obsessions.

So there are no balloons here, but this pic of Laine with Auntie M was in the upload, and too cute not to post.

The guy was dressed like a tomato, but the balloon wasn't :(

Here is Annie and Laine sharing a stroller. It worked out rather nice. It was cute that later on when they were tired, Annie was twirling her finger around Laine's piggy tail.

We saw them roll this one out from start to finish...to being laid out on the ground, beginning to inflate, rising, and being taken down.

It made me excited for the Balloon Ride that Adam and I are taking this fall!

When it started getting dark, you could really see the "glow."

You could really feel the heat from these things. The Pepsi can was out of control and crashing into the other balloons, and then swooping down into the people; we had to RUN out of the way once.

Laine just crawled into the bucket--we thought she was trying to get something out of it, but turns out she just wanted to rest; so we let her stay and pushed her around while she was down there.

We found online coupons for

FREE entry into the Magic House,

so we spent a rainy Saturday afternoon there.

She found her obsession---bunnies! She was ecstatic!

She was also quite entranced by the little "Mouse Hole" with the little mouse family inside. There was even a light switch to turn on and off, and the door could open and close.

She was tippy toe-ing to reach the water pouring out. Surprisingly, she was pretty dry at the end of it all.

Quack, Quack

Just like at home--- she loves to pour the sand all over.

Wheeeeee.

She learned from the big boys that you could just climb up the other side instead of going all the way around and using the spiral stairs. But gosh-darnit--mom wouldn't let her do that too many times.

Full concentration---tongue out and all.

Geez, Louise...they are so alike; next thing you know she's gonna have a unibrow!!!

So many Lainas!!! She loved it---no vanity problems here.

Bubbles galore, I can't believe we ever got her out of the Bubble Room. Good thing there were quick distractions...she would have spent the whole day playing in bubbles!!!

Mommy and Daddy had as much fun with this ball exhibit as Lainey did. If you covered all the other holes, it made the ball float super high. It was pretty mesmerizing to play with. The balls just stayed in the air stream and did not fall.

Laine was so zonked after all the hands-on fun that she couldn't even stand to stay awake for Toys R' Us. We went after and she layed her head on my shoulder the whole time...she was pooped.

Too Good To Be True...

Since Alaina can climb over the top of her crib, we took off the front and converted it to the next step. She woke up the first nite @ 3 a.m. crying trying to find her way back to it, so I went against what I always say about co-sleeping and put her in the bed with me for the remainder of the nite---hey I was tired and not too sure I could have functioned enough to put her back in her bed either. She hasn't been up at 3 a.m. since she was 5 days old!

The second nite, she did good and slept till morning, but woke up with a whimper so I was in there before she had a chance to escape or wander.

Third nite's a charm???? She was up at 6 a.m.!!!! I could hear her moving around, so I went to check on her and she seemed wide awake. She greeted me with her two-syllable "hi-eee." I told her it was too early to be up and asked her if she needed a new diaper. "Ka-eee" is her new "yes." It sounds so cute like you just came up with the greatest idea ever and she is agreeing to it. Anyway, I changed her diaper and she tells me, "mok, mok" and signs for milk. So we go in the kitchen and get a drink of milk. She has still not convinced me to get up @ 6 a.m. so I take her back to her big girl bed and lay her down and tell her it is TOO EARLY to get up. I walk away back to my room with my fingers crossed---it worked!!! She went back to sleep---and so did I.
Then I can hear her again. I look at the clock anticipating it to only read 15 minutes later; but it was 2 hours later!!! Well, I had gone to get her the first 2 nights, so I decided to wait and see what she would do---would she get out and come to my room, would she just mozey on into the living room? I was anxious to find out---so I layed there for a little while. Pretty soon it's A HALF HOUR LATER---what could she be doing...so I sneak to the cracked door.

I almost gave myself away and laughed outloud, but knew that I must go sneak the camera and capture this moment....

I found her sitting in her bed with a PILE of books------AND WEARING HER SUNGLASSES!!!! By the time I got the camera, she heard me and was on her way out, but I still got pics of the evidence.

This was TWO Saturdays ago, and she has slept every nite through. She even goes down and stays in it without whining or playing. It is just too good to be true, so I am waiting for all hell to break loose and go through some 'stage' of anti-bedtime. Also, I have had to go back to work, so 6 a.m. would feel like sleeping in now!

Alaina is becoming more and more aware of her attire. Each morning when she wakes up, she says, "dress, dress..." and she doesn't mean get dressed, she means: get a dress out of closet and put it on me! And 9 times out of 10 she already has a specific dress in mind.

Well now it's even that way for Jammies. She insisted on wearing the matching outfit to "Ocki" the other nite; even though they were too big. PS--Ocki is her baby.....it looks like Barack Obama, so we named it Baracki, but she calls it Ocki.

She even read a story to Ocki before bed.

All the girls went to a Gretchen Wilson concert for Live on the Levee. We were total posers with our cowgirl hats and cowboy boots.

The hat has since been retired to Alaina.
